Research & Programs

HAI’s current research efforts focus on a number of areas, including prevention-of-mother-to-child transmission of HIV; acute infection, the genomic analysis of HIV-1C (the viral sub-type predominant in southern Africa); optimal ARV treatment regimens in resource-scarce settings; and drug resistance to ARVs.

Other areas of research include developing the most effective community-based interventions to prevent transmission of HIV, cost-effectiveness of ARV treatment, Herpes and HIV, and vaccine development.
