of drug resistant virus strains throughout the world, a viable HIV vaccine is in demand more than ever. An emergent research approach investigates a virological and immunological analysis of the earliest stages of HIV infection. This research concentration may provide clues for developing an efficient and effective vaccine design, and it is equally important for addressing questions related to transmission of drug-resistant viruses in the developing world. This was the focus of the twelfth think tank, HIV Vaccines for Developing Countries: Analysis of Acute and Early Infections. The think tank was held in Nairobi, Kenya, Thursday, October 13 to Sunday, October 16, 2005.
The symposium was sponsored by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, U.S. Military HIV Research Program and Henry M. Jackson Foundation, HAI, and Fogarty International Center of the United States National Institutes of Health. The 2005 Vaccine Think Tank Report was written by Drs. Joseph Nkolola and Ms. Irene Kiwelu.
