Capitol Hill Luncheon Honoring
His Excellency President Festus Mogae

On June 24, 2003, the Chair of the International Advisory Council, Mr. Maurice Tempelsman and HAI hosted a luncheon on Capitol Hill honoring His Excellency Festus Mogae, President of the Republic of Botswana, for his dedication to combating HIV and AIDS.
The tribute was attended by Senior Senators and Congressman as well as representatives from the National Institutes of Health and leaders from national foundations and private industry.
Botswanas HIV infection rate is the highest in the world. While the country enjoys prosperity and a stable government, 36 percent of the adult population (ages 15 49 are living with HIV according to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Although suffering greatly from this epidemic, the people and the government of Botswana have dedicated themselves to eradicating the disease from their nation.
