The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation is an independent philanthropy focusing on the major health care issues facing the nation. The Foundation is an independent voice and source of facts and analysis for policymakers, the media, the health care community, and the general public. The foundation provided a grant for the Arthur Ashe Program in AIDS Care, a four-week multidisciplinary training program at the Institute, which aimed to foster the participation of medical students from traditionally underrepresented groups in HIV-related care and research. Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center
Operated by the Good Samaritan Foundation, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center is the second largest hospital in Tanzania. The Harvard AIDS Institute collaborates with KCMC in a study examining the general prevalence of various sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. The results of this study will allow researchers to plan long-term treatment interventions and determine the feasibility of vaccine research in the region. KCMC also co-sponsored HIV Vaccines for Developing Countries: Subtype C held in Arusha, Tanzania in December 2000. Leukemia Society of America
The Leukemia Society of America’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Society co-sponsored the International Symposium on HIV, Leukemia, and Opportunistic Cancers held in Marrakech, Morocco in May 1999. For more information, visit http://www.leukemia.org.

Merck & Company. Inc.
Merck is a research-driven pharmaceutical products and services company. Merck discovers, develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of innovative products to improve human and animal health. Merck sponsors the Enhancing Care Initiative, coordinated by HAI. In addition, the Merck Company Foundation collaborates with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on the African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnership (ACHAP), a five-year, multimillion-dollar commitment to help curb the AIDS epidemic in Botswana. The KITSO AIDS Training Program, a collaboration between the Botswana–Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership for HIV Research and Education and the Botswana Ministry of Health, is supported by a grant from ACHAP. The Miss Universe Organization
The Miss Universe Organization is an international company that advances and supports today's women. Every MISS UNIVERSE® has the job of traveling the world to speak on behalf of her official cause, HIV/AIDS awareness. Each woman uses her title to champion HIV/AIDS prevention, particularly among adolescents, and to promote the rights of women and youth to information on family planning and receiving proper sexual and reproductive health care and services. The Miss Universe Organization has formed an alliance with HAI and the organization participated in the forum titled Giving Voice to a Silent Epidemic: HIV/AIDS Care and Prevention for Women in 1999 and Having Our Say: Women Respond to the Worldwide AIDS Epidemic in 2000. Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences
Researchers with HAI collaborate with colleagues at the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences and Muhimbili Medical Center on several HIV research projects that study perinatal transmission of HIV and assess the effect of vitamins given during and after pregnancy on perinatal transmission of HIV. Nankai University Vaccine Laboratory
The Harvard AIDS Institute collaborates with the Nankai University Vaccine Lab through the Institute’s China Initiative. Institute researcher Yichen Lu serves as director of Nankai University Vaccine Labs and heads this collaboration dedicated to AIDS vaccine development. National Agency for Research on AIDS (France)
National Agency for Research on AIDS (Agence Nationale de Recherches sur le Sida) is a long time supporter of HAI. Most recently, ANRS co-sponsored HIV Vaccines for Developing Countries: Establishing Networks for HIV Vaccine Trials in Southern Africa held in Gaborone, Botswana in December 2001. National AIDS Coordinating Agency
The National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA) spearheads the development and implementation of Botswana's response to AIDS, overseeing the country's comprehensive National HIV/AIDS Care and Prevention Plan, completed in 2001. NACA also forms partnerships with foundations, private industry, international groups, and other governmental organizations to build clinical capacity and health care infrastructure in country. The Institute collaborates with NACA through the Botswana–Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership for HIV Research and Education. National Medical Fellowships, Inc.
National Medical Fellowships is the only private, national nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to increasing the number of underrepresented minorities in medicine through its diverse programs and services. The organization helped to administer fellowships for the Arthur Ashe Program in AIDS Care, which ran from 1998-2001. For more information, contact http://www.nmf-online.org.

The Oak Foundation
The Oak Foundation is an international philanthropy foundation that commits its resources to address issues of global social and environmental concern, particularly those that have a major impact on the lives of the disadvantaged. With support from the foundation, the Institute has developed HAI Oak Foundation Program, which supports training of AIDS experts from Zimbabwe, expands the Institute’s vaccine research, and conducts studies with microbicides as a mechanism to allow women to protect themselves from HIV infection. Pasteur Institute of Morocco
The Pasteur Institute is a public medical establishment in Morocco aimed at fighting infectious and parasitic diseases, preparing and importing serums and vaccines. Pfizer, Inc.
Pfizer is a research-based, global pharmaceutical company. The company has three business segments: health care, animal health, and consumer health care. Pfizer provided support for Africa Now! A Leadership Summit to Define African Priorities for AIDS held in Boston, Massachusetts in November 2000. The Harvard AIDS Institute is also working with Pfizer and the Government of Botswana to expand training in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of opportunistic infections in Southern Africa. Pontificia University Catolica de Puerto Rico
The Harvard AIDS Institute collaborates with Pontificia University Catolica de Puerto Rico in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico through the Enhancing Care Initiative. Faculty members from the Department of Psychology work together with other local AIDS care experts on the Initiative’s multi-disciplinary AIDS care team in Puerto Rico.
